I was responsible for worldbuilding and set-dressing the final boss room in the Durance of Hate, where the player battles Mephisto at the end of Act 3. The worldbuilding for the remainder of the Durance was done by Leanna Russell, who I advised on lore and visual composition as necessary. I worked closely with art director Chris Amaral and outsource studio Pixel Mafia to achieve the desired look and quality of all the Travincal and Durance assets (including a disturbing amount of research into what piles of human gore might look like). The body piles and gore piles needed to match the original footprint of the original Diablo 2 game, and some modification to the outsource models was required on my part to ensure adequate parity. Other outsource models needed to be modified as well, in order to fit the needs of the space and the 3D isometric camera. I was also responsible for the creation and layering of the terrain materials used in the Durance and throughout Travincal, as well as the shader for the large pools of blood.
